Upper respiratory congestion or irritation
Cough/lung congestion
Croup or asthma
Contraindications
Extremely young children or very aged who may not be able to respond to heat.
Severe cardiovascular disease.
Hypersensitive to steam
Special Considerations
Be careful, avoid burning.
Make fresh air available, leave one side open.
Check patient’s tolerance.
May add eucalyptus, mint, myrrh, or pine oils to water to enhance treatment.
Procedure
Boil water/light steam
Use an umbrella and sheet to make a tent over the head
Stay inside 15-30 min.
Dry very well at the end and rest for 30 minutes
Repeat every 3-4 hrs. as needed.
