Allergy/intolerance to cold
Hypersensitivity to cold
Raynaud’s disease
Poor circulation
Cuts and burns
Poor circulation/PVD
Severe diabetes
Elderly or infants
Special Considerations
Make sure patient is warm.
Pack should be larger than affected area.
Watch skin reaction.
Do not let area get wet.
Do not leave the ice for more than 20 minutes.
May repeat up to 5x/day
Procedure
Place ice in bag and seal it
Place bag in pillowcase.
Mold ice pack over affected area, keep skin dry.
Cover pack with a towel.
Maximum time: 20 minutes.
May repeat every 2-4 hours.
Immobilize affected area.
